Senior Administration Assistant

The Open University's Knowledge Media Institute (KMi) has an opening for an experienced person to take on the role of Senior Administrative Assistant. The post is part of a team who combine to provide administrative support services to the academic and executive staff of KMi. You will be expected to perform tasks specific to your role as well as cooperate with other team members to ensure a continuity of administrative services.

You should be adaptable to the unique environment and demands of a high-profile research laboratory, which requires a degree of flexibility and initiative to cope with fluctuating workload and non-routine activity. Having agreed clear objectives and well-defined guidelines and boundaries within which to work, you will be required to prioritise and schedule tasks and to exercise judgement and initiative in discharging your duties, liaising with the appropriate networks to ensure timely dissemination of information.

Research Assistant/Associate: Semantic Web Services


Knowledge Media Institute (KMi)
£27,183 - £35,469, Ref: 6149
Based in Milton Keynes
Two temporary contracts, up to 12 months


KMi has two Research Assistants/Associates positions to undertake research on Semantic Web Services in the context of the EU project SOA4All - http://www.soa4all.eu and http://projects.kmi.open.ac.uk/soa4all/. SOA4All aims at supporting the deployment of services in a Web scale by combining Web 2.0, semantic Web and SOA technologies, setting up the basis for a Web of billions of services. Successful candidates will play a major role in achieving project's objectives by contributing to a fully-fledged Web-based framework supporting the annotation of services, the creation of mashups and complex processes, their execution and analysis.

You should have strong software development experience with Java and AJAX and prior experience in developing applications using Semantic Web technologies, Web services and RESTful services. A good publication record, knowledge of Web Services Modelling Ontology (WSMO - http://www.wsmo.org) and its variants notably WSMO-Lite and MicroWSMO, and previous experience with NetKernel, workflow engines or rule engines will also be highly desirable.
