The Open University’s Knowledge Media Institute (KMi) is looking for a Research Associate able to develop machine learning approaches for the detection of violence and extremism in social media. The EPSRC funded project will study a Bayesian modelling approach which identifies violent contents in social media without the use of any labelled data. Efficient online parameter updating and parallel data processing procedures will be investigated.
You should have a strong interest and expertise in natural language processing, sentiment analysis and opinion mining, and machine learning and hold a degree in Computer Science or other relevant discipline. You must be able to combine scientific research with practical research and development in the project.
