Description

This is a one-day workshop for discussing Semantic Web Services (SWS) in the context of Advanced Knowledge Technologies (AKT). We intend to support the interaction of research in different communities.

Semantic Web Services combine Web Service technologies with Semantic Web technologies. The augmentation of Web services with formal descriptions of their capabilities will facilitate their automatic location, mediation, composition and execution.

The objective of this workshop is to discuss the common research issues regarding the modelling of knowledge for describing services in the Semantic Web. As the workshop is informal it welcomes shorter versions of papers that have been published elsewhere.

The highlight of the workshop will be a panel of invited speakers for the theme: "Which Semantic Web Service standards?". There will be four panellists who will present their position on OWL-S, WSMO, IRS-III and SWSI. The panel will be conducted in such a way as to encourage discussion with the audience.

Terry Payne, Michael Stollberg, John Domingue and Steve Battle have already confirmed their participation in the panel session.

Call for Papers

The program will include presentations of short papers, discussion groups for position papers and demos. This workshop is open to all members of the the AKT Consortium and SWS community. Please note that at least one author of each accepted submission must attend the workshop. Submission of a paper is not required for attendance at the workshop.

Submissions

All submissions should be formatted in Springer's LNCS style, pdf format, and sent by e-mail to l.s.cabral@open.ac.uk. Accepted short papers and position papers will be included in the proceedings.  Figures that help the reader to quickly grasp the essence of complex material are strongly encouraged. A hard copy of the proceedings will be distributed at the workshop. The proceedings will be published electronically in the CEUR Workshop Proceedings series.

Short papers should be not longer than 4 pages and will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be scheduled for a 15 min presentation (including questions) at the workshop. Position papers will receive no review and will be presented as part of themed discussion groups. There will be a demo session scheduled for demonstrating working implementations. We encourage accompanying demonstrations with a position paper.

Position statements are limited to 2 pages and should include some or all of the following:

• introduction of the author(s)
• brief description of your work (and possibly other work at your institution) related to Semantic Web services
• tools or testbeds you have to offer to the community
• discussion of what you view as the most challenging issues in Semantic Web Services and prospects for solving them
• challenges, questions or issues that you'd like to see addressed at the workshop.

Due to the limited number of seats in the workshop venue, people wishing to attend must register by sending an e-mail to l.s.cabral@open.ac.uk. Subject line must say 'akt-sws04 registration' and body should include name and affiliation of attendee.

The closest airport to Milton Keynes is Luton.

Travelling from LUTON

There is no direct rail service from Milton Keynes to Luton but several express bus routes provide a reasonable
service. Three are 17 buses a day from the Coachway to Luton Airport (services 230 & 777
http://www.pindar.co.uk/bucks/tt/777mkndx.htm) - the journey time is just 45 minutes. Alternatively, a bright red
Virgin bus picks up at the front of Milton Keynes railway station and the shopping centre and runs to Luton
Airport approximately hourly with a journey time of just under an hour - this service does not operate through the
night.

Travelling from LONDON HEATHROW and GATWICK

From Heathrow airport:

The Railair (Watford) train service provides a rail link to Watford Junction. From Watford Junction the Silverlink
train service travels to Milton Keynes.
Virgin and Silverlink trains travel from London Euston Station to Milton Keynes Central Station.

From Gatwick airport:

The Gatwick Express train travels to Milton Keynes ( 1 hour and 40 minutes)

The Open University can then be reached by taxi.
