GATE is the 'Eclipse' of Natural Language Engineering, the 'Lucene' of Information Extraction. It comprises an architecture, a free open-source framework and a graphical development environment and is used worldwide by thousands of scientists, companies, teachers and students for all kinds of language processing tasks, including Information Extraction in several languages. It has also been employed for innovative Information Extraction (IE) methods for metadata extraction and access to multimedia content within the MUMIS, PrestoSpace and MediaCampaign EC-funded projects.
