The University
of Southampton IT
Innovation Centre is an applied research centre focused on enabling the
innovative application of information technology in industry and commerce.
In this poster we present 3 of our projects in the MMKM space. POLYMNIA
created an intelligent cross-media platform for the production of custom
video souvenirs for visitors to leisure and cultural heritage venues.
Visitors can be identified, isolated, tracked and recorded individually
through cameras placed throughout the venue. Media souvenirs, including
DVDs and photo albums, are automatically produced at the end of each
visitor's visit for them to take home. In AVATAR-m we are developing an
innovative new approach to planning and managing large-scale, sustainable
and integrated audiovisual digital archives. The project bridges a
'semantic gap' between archive solutions in terms of media assets and
digital archive performance (e.g. safety, accessibility and cost), and the
technological implementation of these archives. Finally, the ANSWER project is developing
a notation system and underlying ontology for film direction, akin to
musical or choreographic scores. This will provide a means for film
directors to express and communicate their shooting intentions during
production and support rapid retrieval of rushes in post-production.
