Making the News Day

Peter Scott, Thursday 11 Nov 2004

KMi today was the host of a large group of Year 8/9 students (aged about 12-13 years) from Lord Grey School. The students were taking part in the KMi Making the News (MTN) Project. This project is funded by the Department of Education and is being run through the East of England Broadband Network (E2BN). E2BN invited the school to come to the Open University, to produce an online newspaper in a day long exercise at using a wide range of KMi technologies, including Rostra, FlashBlogging, video interviews and live FlashMeeting interviews.

A number of project partners in the press, journalism and television, plus representatives from local education authorities around the country, joined the children to see how they could use the KMi MTN technologies in their work.

We were very pleased by the results. Through the day, the students produced over 40 good journalistic efforts with a healthy mix of topics – from current affairs to special features.
