weSPOT meets in Leuven

Alexander Mikroyannidis, Monday 15 Apr 2013

The weSPOT project held its first General Assembly in Leuven, Belgium last week. The meeting took place in conjunction with the International Learning Analytics & Knowledge Conference (LAK 2013). weSPOT is a 3-year FP7 project, which started last October. The project aims at propagating scientific inquiry as the approach for science learning and teaching in combination with today’s curricula and teaching practices. weSPOT supports the meaningful contextualization of scientific concepts by relating them to personal curiosity, experiences, and reasoning. It also addresses several challenges in the area of science learning and technology support for building personal conceptual knowledge.

The KMi team (Alexander Mikroyannidis, Alexandra Okada and Peter Scott) is leading WP3: Personal and Social Inquiry Workflows. This WP has an instrumental role in the project, as it will deliver the infrastructure for enabling learners to build and share personal inquiry workflows. Through this  infrastructure, learners will be able to create mashups of personal and social learning tools in order to perform scientific investigations. They will also be able to share their inquiry accomplishments to social networks, and receive feedback from the assistive inquiry technologies and their peers.
