Awarding the best paper in Novatica

The Novática Award 2008 for the best paper published by the Spanish IT association ATI in its house journal prized an article from the special issue on ‘technology-enhanced learning’ edited by Carlos Delgado Kloos (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid) and KMi member Fridolin Wild.

The jury had selected the article of Daniel Livingstone from the University of the West of Scotland and Jeremy Kemp from San José State University on

Integrando entornos de aprendizaje basados
en Web y 3D: Second Life y Moodle se encuentran

= Integrating Web-Based and 3D Learning
Environments: Second Life Meets Moodle.

The article was published in the number 193 of Novática (May-June 2008), within the monograph ‘El futuro de la tecnología educativa’ (‘Technology-Enhanced Learning’). It appeared as a spanish translation of the English special issue appearing simultaneously in UPGRADE.

The award, consisting of a diploma, has been presented in Madrid on November 13th, 2009, in the Spanish Ministry of Industry. In his laudatory speech, Fridolin emphasized the achievement of the contribution to be in "creating interoperability not only between to distinct systems, but between two realities: the web and the web 3D". He explains further, that "they have enabled Moodle to serve Second Life with structure plus content and capture input and to enhance learning experiences with space and physicality".

This achievement has been convinced the jury to award a technology-enhanced learning contribution with the best paper award for the overall computer science area.
