Personalised learning – paving the way forward

Alexander Mikroyannidis, Friday 19 May 2017

The latest CALRG event on Personalised Learning took place on May 18th. The event was organised by the Open University’s Computers and Learning Research Group (CALRG) and brought together researchers that have been working on personalised learning in order to share the outcomes of their work and move forward to shape the university’s strategy in this area.

Alexander Mikroyannidis represented KMi and presented some of the work conducted in the context of recent EU-funded research projects. In particular, Alexander presented the outcomes of four years of educational research in the project called ROLE (Responsive Online Learning Environments). ROLE technology is centered around the concept of self-regulated learning that creates responsible learners, who are capable of critical thinking and able to plan their own learning processes. The methodology and outcomes of the project have been published in an open access book available by Springer.

Additionally, Alexander talked about how the outcomes of the ROLE project have informed and shaped the approaches adopted by follow-up KMi research projects, including the weSPOT project on personalised inquiry-based learning, FORGE on remote labs and online experimentation, as well as KMi’s ongoing work on Blockchain technologies for higher education.

The event was broadcasted live and the recording is available here.
