Carole R. Beal was a professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (USA). Her work focused on the design and deployment of software for teaching mathematics to elementary school students, aimed at engaging both girls and boys in learning math.

Her past projects included studies of literacy development, eyewitness memory in young children, and gender role development. She was a Spencer Fellow and a past associate editor of the Journal of Educational Psychology.
