KMi FlashMeets with the world at MoodleMoot Brazil
Alan Fletcher, Friday 19 Oct 2007As part of KMi’s continuing commitment to Moodle development and support of the Open University’s VLE Ale Okada presented the KMi technologies of Compendium, MSG and FlashMeeting at the prestigious MoodleMoot Brazil 2007, using a live FlashMeeting. MoodleMoot Brazil is the largest gathering of Moodle developers in South America. Ale, sitting at her KMi desk hosted a thirty minute meeting in Portuguese, demonstrating the functionality of KMi technologies and their application in a learning environment. Particular reference was made to the integration of the technologies in the Open University’s OpenLearn environment with a demonstration of the embedded Compendium application that is already available in the LabSpace portal.
Using all the functions of the FlashBoard, Ale was able to demonstrate the ease of use of Compendium and its application in building comprehensive knowledge maps that help individual and group learners to share and comprehend each others arguments and learning. The embedding of Compendium into FlashMeeting was of great interest to the live audience of nearly 400 people at MoodleMoot.
MSG instant messaging, linked to Google Maps, also raised interest at MoodleMoot as a significant social software tool, confined the the learning community.
Mackenzie University in Sao Paulo, Brazil, hosts of MoodleMoot are already collaborators with KMi in OpenLearn. KMi are also working with Paula de Waal, University of Padova, one of the Keynote Speakers.
