RefResh workshop at EuroCSS symposium

Rachel Coignac-Smith, Monday 7 Jan 2019

The 2nd European Computational Social Science symposium held in Cologne, Germany hosted the 1st workshop on Reframing Research (RefResh) organised by the KMiers Dr. Mannocci and Dr. Osborne and Dr. Manghi from ISTI, CNR, Italy.

The main objective of RefResh was to bring together researchers from both quantitative and qualitative studies, practitioners and policy-makers working in the field of academic research, scholarly communication and knowledge production in order to reframe research in relation to the underlying socioeconomic and geopolitical canvas and foster an analysis of research as complex system that influences and is influenced by society, economics, culture, and politics.

The workshop was a success; 23 registered participants from all over the world attended the full day event consisting of 1 keynote, 9 talks, 1 poster talk and a roundtable at the end. Participation was high and interesting discussions stemmed from each presentation.

Contextually, Dr. Mannocci presented a poster titled “Geographic trends in academic conferences: closed clubs or open houses?” that gained interest during the main symposium poster session and was awarded an honourable mention by the public.
