NoTube – on the way to future television

Monday 10 May 2010

NoTube – this is future television. This claim was once again underlined by the very successful 1st year project review of NoTube, which took place last week at the VU Intertain Lab in Amsterdam, which proved to be a more than worthy venue for NoTube. NoTube did set off to create a new, user-driven television experience by combining digital television with the latest Semantic Web technology and the diverse social network and user data spread around the Web. During the successful review – reviewers rated the project as excellent – use case partners such as the BBC, RAI or Stoneroos showcased a first set of prototypes which took advantage from, amongst other things, latest Semantic Web Services (SWS) technology developed by the OU team (John Domingue, Stefan Dietze, Neil Benn, Harry Yu & Bassem Makni) to integrate a range of TV-related services from the Web. The reviewers were very impressed with the 1st year results and we are looking forward to an even more interesting and ambitious second year of NoTube. Meanwhile, up-to-date information on recent developments within NoTube are regularly updated at http://blog.notu.be where a first demo video and a brief introduction to the OU’s work within NoTube can be found as well.
