World Design Congress 2025
Tuesday 18 Mar 2025
For the first time in over 50 years, the World Design Congress returns to London, taking place at the Barbican Centre on 9–11 September 2025. The Open University’s Design Team (School of Engineering and Innovation) will be well represented, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable and inclusive design.
This year’s theme, Design for Planet, focuses on harnessing design to address the climate and nature crisis. As a leader in innovative and inclusive design, the OU will contribute to discussions shaping the future of sustainability.
The event builds on Design for Planet 2024 in Manchester, at which Senior Lecturer in Design, Anne-Marie Bartlett, contributed to Leaders’ Day, helping shape the Design Council’s Green Design Skills agenda. This work ensures the momentum from the Framework launch and workshops continues through the World Design Congress and beyond.
You can stay updated by signing up for the World Design Congress newsletter. A live online stream will be available for OU staff and students to join the conversation.
You can read more about Design for Planet 2024 in Anne-Marie’s blog: Design for Planet Festival 2024 – Design@Open. We look forward to seeing you there!
