Applications closed: Floodplain Meadows Partnership Research Associate

Tuesday 12 Oct 2021

We are looking for a Research Associate to work within the Floodplain Meadows Partnership team in EEES. The post is fixed-term and part-time.

The postholder will join an established team of staff responsible for delivering the recently awarded ‘Flourishing Floodplains’ project in the Severn and Avon Vales in Gloucestershire.

The postholder will be responsible for the collection of 300 soil samples for carbon analysis from different landuse types within the Severn and Avon floodplains. This will lead to the publication of ground-breaking research on soil carbon storage in floodplains and provide evidence of the benefits of floodplain meadow restoration.

The postholder will also be responsible for undertaking botanical survey in up to 1000 ha of floodplain grassland. This will be done both directly by the postholder, and through running training sessions in survey methods with volunteers. These latter activities will be co-ordinated by the postholder.

This work will provide new evidence of the extent of species rich floodplain meadow remaining in the Severn and Avon Vales in Gloucestershire, highlighting its position nationally as one of the largest areas of floodplain meadow remaining in the UK at a landscape scale. Through this work, the postholder will also train volunteers in botanical ID and survey methods, empowering them to be more engaged in the conservation of this habitat in their local area.
