Sir John Daniel back for the day

Sir John Daniel was back in town for the day, and stopped in to KMi for an update on the latest R&D news, accompanied by Ms. Stamenka Uvalic-Trumbic, Chief of Reform, Innovation and QA at UNESCO. Sir John, who is now President and Chief Executive Officer, Commonwealth of Learning, is a former OU Vice-Chancellor, and one of the key movers and shakers behind the creation of KMi in 1994. He was also an early adopter of KMi technology, and the author of the influential book Mega-Universities and Knowledge Media: Technology Strategies for Higher Education (Kogan Page, 1996)". The visitors had a full-day programme at the OU, aimed at bringing UNESCO and the Commonwealth of Learning up-to-date on the latest strategic developments, including the Open Content Initiative and the OU's Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Within KMi, Marc Eisenstadt and Peter Scott described ongoing KMi work on sensemaking, social software, semantic web, and new media technologies, and how elements of these were being woven into the Open Content Initiative.
