P-time Research Associate

Ale Okada is p-time Researcher at the Knowledge Media Institute of the Open University and consultant to the Association of Science Education UK. Her research interest focuses on knowledge and social media tools to foster Scientific and Digital Literacy - future citizens embracing the potential of science and technology.

She has been working in three areas:
1. Knowledge Cartography focused on fostering Students’ scientific argumentation with knowledge and evidence-based maps. OU Projects: Global Argument, Open SenseMaking Communities, OpenLearn.
2. Collaborative Learning through Open Educational Resources, particularly strategies for communities of practice to reuse, remix and recreate knowledge together. European Projects: ICOPER, OpenScout.
3.Inquiry Based Learning with social, personal, open and mobile technologies. European projects: weSPOT.

Before joining the Open University, Ale Okada was a lecturer in Brazil as well as a consultant to Brazil Government in diverse projects related to CPD for digital and scientific literacy. She also worked as a curriculum developer and teacher in computer supported learning and Science projects for Elementary and Secondary School for more than 15 years. Currently, she is leading the CoLearn Community of researchers and teachers interested in collaborative open learning.

She holds a BSc in Computer Science, a MBA in Knowledge Management and Marketing as well as a MA and Doctoral in Education. Her publications comprise more than 55 papers in international conferences and academic journals, 30 book chapters and 6 books.
