MMIS at final PHAROS meeting

Friday 11 Dec 2009

Barcelona, 9-11 Dec 2009. Half of KMi’s Multimedia and Information Systems group attended the final meeting of KMi’s audiovisual search engine project PHAROS, which is a large FP 6 integrated project in its last month.

The meeting had a definite vibrant feel of achievements looking back at the three-year-long research and development of an industry strength audiovisual search engine, the creation of a community of 32 federation members, who have signed up as stakeholders in relevant industries such as broadcasting or libraries. Besides these stakeholders there are now 450 indviduals who form part of PHAROS’s ecosystem of users. KMi’s role in the PHAROS project was contributing visual content-based search technology (you provide an example image and receive visually similar video shots), content-based visual indexing and the technologically challenging task of automated visual annotation from pixels.

The meeting reviewed the final deliverables, which are all on time, and planned the final review of the project at France Telecom in March.
