KMi at MK Business Achievement Awards

Kate Dungate, Monday 24 Mar 2014

MK:Smart was on Milton Keynes Council’s winning team at the inaugural Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards held on 20 March at stadiummk.  KMi’s Jane Whild joined MK Council’s Geoff Snelson and Sarah Gonsalves to collect the Environmental and Corporate Sustainability Award from the host, BBC Breakfast presenter, Bill Turnbull. The Open University’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tim Blackman and Project Director, Prof. Enrico Motta were also at the event, as well as Prof. David Barrett and Dr Paul Sant from the University of Bedfordshire.

The award, sponsored by Cranfield University, was for an organisation in the Milton Keynes area who could demonstrate they had looked beyond the legislative requirements to improve their green credentials through innovation and moral modernisation.

Milton Keynes has a history of innovation and leadership in environmental design and practice, and the Council has been a leader by example in the field, with the Low Carbon Living Strategy and Action Plan in 2010, and a number of initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions locally, helping to tackle global climate change.  MK:Smart is one of a number of successful initiatives that have resulted from Milton Keynes Council’s Future Cities programme.

The council’s bid entry was a consortium with a number of local and national partners, including academic institutions, the voluntary and community sector, and commercial organisations.
