The passing of Al Selvin
Kate Dungate, Thursday 15 Oct 2015
We would like to express our sorrow at the sudden death of Al Selvin.
Al worked with us here from 2003-2011, when he wrote his PhD thesis "Participatory Knowledge Creation as Facilitated Art: An Investigation into Practitioner Ethics and Aesthetics."
As a member of Simon Buckingham Shum’s team, Al also made key contributions towards numerous projects which extended the Compendium software he originally invented (Hypermedia Discourse, e-PhD, CoAKTinG, Co-OPR), also co-founding the Compendium Institute to support the tool’s international user and developer community.
Al’s working relationship with Simon continued after they left KMi and last year they published “Constructing Knowledge Art: An Experiential Perspective on Crafting Participatory Representations”.
He will be sadly missed.
