Successful trial of tutorial attendance mobile app

Paul Hogan, Monday 9 Oct 2017

Students studying U116 Environment: journeys through a changing world were the first to trial a new app being developed by Paul Hogan in KMi.

OU Check In allows students to log in with their University credentials and displays a QR Code that tutors using the same app can scan to record their attendance. The one time log in app displays the student’s QR Code each time the app is opened and all the student needs to do is to present their phone to the tutor to be scanned.

Student Demi Abrahams (pictured) can be seen presenting her QR Code for scanning at the U116 tutorial held on 7th October.  When asked about the app Demi replied "I think the app is fab!".

Associate Lecturer Roger Bradley (pictured) has been working closely with Paul to ensure the app provides both tutors and students with an easier more efficient method of attendance recording.  Roger is the first tutor to use the app in a tutorial.

Once all students have been scanned the tutor can then transfer the data to the university for later analysis.

It is hoped the app will be taken up by tutors and students alike.
