The Institute of Welsh Affairs is the leading think tank for the development and delivery of public initiatives that have real impact in Wales. IWA director, Auriol Miller, invited KMi’s Alan Fletcher to be part of the IWA Advisory Group that has just published “Our Smart Region”, a report on the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal.
The report explores how the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal could use smart technology to improve the lives of the people who live and work in the region – and at the same time strengthen the region’s economy.
Working with domain experts from Arup, BT, Cardiff University, Centrica, Microsoft, Next Generation Data, Valleys Taskforce, Wales Cooperative Centre and Y Lab, KMi’s experience of MK:Smart, CityLABS and the UK APPG on Smart Cities was appreciated as providing real world evidence backed by academic research.
At the official launch of “Our Smart Region” Alan provides the keynote address on Smart Thinking for a Smart Region. The event, on the 27th Sept at the University of South Wales brings together local and national government, industry stakeholders and leading academics to consider the report’s 6 recommendations.
The Open University in Wales are delighted to be supporting the IWA in the activity with continued support to further investigate the delivery of learning and skills platforms specifically designed to meet the region’s needs.
