KMi’s Director discusses AI and misinformation at the Government Business magazine

KMi Reporter, Thursday 18 Jan 2024

In an article for Government Business magazine, Prof. Harith Alani discusses the dual potential of AI, emphasising its ability to be both beneficial and detrimental. He underscores AI’s significance as a tool for analysing misinformation, experimenting with preventive measures, and mitigating its effects. Utilising historical data, AI can effectively identify misinformation by recognising previously debunked claims and recurring patterns.

Currently, KMi is actively examining the mechanics and consequences of corrective actions. Prof. Alani advocates for a combination of self-regulation by social media platforms and the establishment of legal frameworks.

The Government Business audience receives regular updates to stay in sync with changing roles in local authorities and the broader public sector.
