Open University (OU) students undertake practical and practice-based learning activities in The OpenSTEM Labs through online access to remote equipment, interactive screen experiments, and live web broadcasts. I have been involved in developing some of the approaches that we use to facilitate the participation of students with disabilities in fieldwork. This research has informed the development of interactive webcasts for lab and fieldwork activities (which we have been using in STEM modules since 2014), and in turn that work is now helping to guide the set up of The OpenXR Studios. This is a university level facility, enabling the OU to deploy eXtended Reality (XR) technologies to create more immersive and collaborative learning experiences at scale. In this seminar, I’ll present the research that has informed these developments and I’ll demonstrate some of the technologies we will be using in The OpenXR Studios.
Maven of the Month
We are also inviting top experts in AI and Knowledge Technologies to discuss major socio-technological topics with an audience that comprises both members of the Knowledge Media Institute, as well as the wider staff at The Open University. Differently from our seminar series, these events follow a Q&A format.
