In my work, I primarily focus on multiple strands of research including collective intelligence, social network analysis, computer science and psychology. My goal is to understand how technology is transforming our mental processes and behaviour; particularly, how individuals process information and perceive reality, how the same affects the beliefs of people around us, and how it affects the evolution of our societies (with respect to perception, practices, and values). Furthermore, I am interested in understanding how groups of people consume and perceive content (i.e., information and knowledge) on online platforms and how their interpersonal relationships or intrinsic biases impact their willingness to share or promote said content.

For my PhD (Computer Science) research, I developed a novel ‘generic’ framework for Collective Intelligence (CI) systems [10.1145/3368986]. Based on a first-of-its-kind exhaustive meta-study of scientific literature on CI and crowdsourcing in ICT, and designed using quantitative and qualitative methods, the framework not only enables researchers to understand, how CI can be enabled in different ICT systems but also empowers both researchers and system designers, looking to harness the ‘wisdom of the crowd’ through ICT solutions.

To give some background of my previous academic and professional experience, I have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a master’s degree (first rank with honours) in Computer Science with a specialization in Knowledge Engineering. After my master’s, I worked as a Programmer Analyst (and Tester) with Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) for almost a year. During this period, I was responsible for the requirement analysis and testing of Pfizer’s post-marketing surveillance system. In the past seven years, I have worked as an Early-Stage Researcher and Teaching Assistant, in Estonia and as an Assistant Professor (of Computer Science) in India. I have contributed to the development of three web-based collaboration platforms, including a silver economy project, an organizational sense-making tool and an open web-annotation system that focuses on semantic data and knowledge co-creation.
