Based in Milton Keynes
Temporary contract until 30th September 2016
Application closed on: Monday 22 June 2015.
The CARRE project is working to support patients with long-term medical problems by combining personal monitoring, social media and medical data with generic sources of ground medical knowledge. In particular, we have developed a model of clinical risk and the tools to represent the results of high-quality medical research as Linked Open Data. Individual data from Internet-connected wearable sensors (e.g., blood pressure monitors) are stored according to a compatible model physical measurements. These two types of data - generic medical data and patient-specific measurements - are combined semantically to generate recommendations, visualisations of personal risk and educational material for patients with cardiac and renal problems.
The Knowledge Media Institute at the Open University is the Semantic Web partner in the CARRE project, and is contributing the following:
- Ontologies and data schema for describing clinical risk and personal observations and measurements.
- Semantic repositories with robust privacy features to store collected medical and personal data.
- Web Services via a RESTful API to support efficient querying, analysis and interlinking of data across the project and from relevant external Linked Open Data sources.
As Linked Open Data is a highly successful technology for promoting the sharing and use of data via the Web, the generic medical knowledge collected during the project is a valuable public resource for a wide range of future bioinformatics and clinical applications.
