The Knowledge Media Institute (KMi) is a distinct research unit within the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at the Open University, Milton Keynes campus.
The role of Research Assistant or Research Associate (depending on experience) is externally funded by UKRI under the UK Government's Horizon Europe Guarantee Scheme in the context of the ORBIS Project on "Augmenting participation, co-creation, trust and transparency in Deliberative Democracy at all scale". The overall aim of this project is to develop novel technologies to enable healthier, as in more transparent, fair, and inclusive participation of citizens in democratic processes. To do that ORBIS will devise novel, user-friendly and AI-boosted digital democracy platforms that augments deliberative participation.
The successful candidate will have or be working towards a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related subjects. The post holder will have a strong record of research and / or knowledge exchange with working knowledge of Web Development stack.
The post holder will be prepared to write papers for publication in high quality journals and conferences.

The agreed salary will be set according to expertise and fit to the role.
Candidates will have the opportunity to negotiate their own salary. In doing so, they should be aware that the length of the contract may be affected by the agreed salary scale due to external project funding limits (meaning that if a candidate negotiates a higher salary, it may not be guaranteed for the full two years due to project budget limits).
