Research Assistant / Associate (Data Architectures)

£28,132 - £36,661, Ref: 9890
Based in Milton Keynes
Temporary contract until 31st December 2016
Application closed on: Thursday 20 March 2014.
On January 1st 2014 The Open University launched MK:SMART, a consortium led by the OU of local and national partners in a significant Smart City, Big Data initiative that will see Milton Keynes benefit from a £16m HEFCE catalyst grant funded project. MK:SMART will develop innovative ways of supporting the significant forecast growth in Milton Keynes through the curation of the data that drives the city’s key transport, water and energy infrastructure. The challenges of supporting growth without outstripping the capacity of the infrastructure, whilst meeting challenging carbon reduction targets, are very real. MK:SMART will provide key demonstrations of how we can meet these challenges with business and citizens alike.
Central to the project is the creation of a state-of-the-art ‘MK Data Hub’ which will curate vast amounts of data from specially deployed energy, transport and water sensors, satellite sources, social and economic datasets, and crowd sourced data from social media or specialised apps. This will help to develop demonstrations of smart utility management through citizen engagement in project activity.
