The Knowledge Media Institute (KMi) is a distinct research unit within the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at the Open University. In KMi, we offer a friendly, diverse, and flexible working environment, as described in more detail at http://kmi.open.ac.uk/

We are seeking a Research Associate with a Computer Science background to work on the CIMPLE project, which stands for Countering Creative Information Manipulation with Explainable AI. CIMPLE aims to research and develop innovative knowledge-driven solutions for the detection and tracking of online information manipulation, while taking into account various AI-explainability needs and requirements. The project is a collaboration between the Open University and other organisations in France, Portugal, Austria and the Czech Republic.

You will be involved in:

- Working in an interdisciplinary team of local and external researchers
- Collection, processing, and analysis of data and content related to the project
- Development and testing of methods for detecting and tracking of information manipulation in online news and social media
- Designing and evaluating various explainability approaches
- Participation in project meetings and research planning activities
- Publishing and presenting results at international conferences and journals.

You will have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related subject. You will have experience with computer programming, machine learning, natural language processing, and semantic web technologies. Good communication skills and publications track record are essential.
